Billions in government consulting contracts under DOGE scrutiny; Big Four accounting firms staff fear mass layoffs, many of these employees make six-figure salaries
Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is scrutinising the billions of dollars the US government spends each year on consulting services, as per a report.
Big firms facing scrutiny
With DOGE's aggressive mission to cut government waste and increase efficiency, it has launched a review of federal contracts with 10 major consulting firms, including Deloitte, Accenture Federal Services, Booz Allen Hamilton, General Dynamics, Leidos, Guidehouse, HII Mission Technologies, Science Applications International, CGI Federal, and IBM. reported Business Insider.
Some firms like Booz Allen Hamilton derive nearly all of its $10.7 billion revenue from government contracts, as per the report. But now, employees working in these consulting divisions are bracing for what could be massive disruptions, as per Business Insider. While Deloitte US receives $3.3 billion annually through its contracts with federal agencies, which is about 9.6% of its latest annual revenue, reported Business Insider.
Federal agencies need to justify their contracts
The General Services Administration (GSA), the primary arm responsible for federal procurement, has asked federal agencies to review and justify their ongoing contracts with these firms, reported Business Insider. Agencies have been given until Friday to provide a list of which contracts are essential and which could be cut, as per the report. This move is part of the Trump administration’s broader effort to combat what it sees as wasteful spending.
