Rajasthan unit, the BJP's central leadership has deputed 200 MLAs from five states to assess the ground situation in all 200 assembly constituencies in the state, sources said. These MLAs have been asked to spend a week this month in constituencies assigned to them and figure out the factors working both in favor and against the BJP, winning prospects of candidates and also look for probable candidates, sources in the party said.
The exercise is being carried out by the BJP's central leadership without much involvement of the state leaders, to get the neutral ground report and feedback about the probable candidates, they said. These MLAs are from neighboring states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat.
Besides, some MLAs from Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh have also been deputed for this massive exercise, BJP leaders said. A senior BJP leader said amid regular reports of factionalism in the BJP's Rajasthan unit, the party has clearly instructed these 200 MLAs to give an unbiased ground picture and they may involve the party's in-house agencies for this exercise, but without much involvement of local leaders.
This exercise has been planned as the party feels infighting is a bigger threat to it than the Congress. These MLAs will submit their report to the central leadership, party insiders said.
It is the leadership question which is hovering over BJP's Rajasthan unit, with two-time former CM Vasundhara Raje Scindia seen as the most potent candidate in some quarters of the BJP to lead the party in assembly polls. While her rivals seek to contest in the name of PM Narendra Modi and collective leadership of the state unit.
