BSP MP Danish Ali has said that he may resign from the Lok Sabha if appropriate action is not taken against BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri for his abusive remarks against him in the House on Thursday.
Ali wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday, seeking an immediate inquiry into the incident and requested the Speaker to refer the matter to the privileges committee.
Bidhuri's slurs on Ali were expunged by the Speaker. Taking strong note of them during a late-night discussion in the Lok Sabha on the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, Birla said that such behaviour was unacceptable and warned him of severe action, according to LS secretariat insiders.
Nevertheless, Ali submitted a letter to the Speaker on Friday, seeking action against Bidhuri.
He said that Bidhuri used «most foul, abusive invectives» against him. In the letter, Ali mentioned the objectionable and abusive words Bidhuri used against him.
«This is most unfortunate and the fact that it happened in the new Parliament building under your leadership as Speaker is truly heartbreaking for me as a minority member of this great nation and an elected Member of Parliament,» Ali said in the letter.
He also sought referring «the matter to the Committee of Privileges under Rule 227 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Lok Sabha for examination, investigation and report».
Talking to reporters at his residence later in the day, Ali said he may «resign his Lok Sabha membership if no action is taken against Bidhuri». An emotional Ali said that if his rights as a parliamentarian were not protected, what would be the plight of common people from minorities across the country.
