BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav on Tuesday filed his nomination for election to the post of Bihar assembly Speaker. Yadav filed his nomination papers in the presence of chief minister Nitish Kumar, deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha and other senior leaders.
As per the deal, the Speaker will be from BJP and deputy Speaker from JDU.
Sources told ET that Maheshwar Hajari from JDU is likely to continue as deputy Speaker.
Yadav is a senior BJP leader and a seven-time MLA. He served as a minister in the earlier Nitish governments, barring the 2020 government.
He was also the leader of the Opposition in 2013. With Yadav as Speaker, BJP has indicated its continued focus on OBC and EBC communities in Bihar.
