Mahayuti alliance swept the key Maharashtra assembly election, retaining power by a record margin, continuing to reverse the setbacks the party faced in the Lok Sabha polls earlier in the year. However, in Jharkhand, chief minister Hemant Soren’s JMM-led INDIA bloc retained power.

The Mahayuti grouping overcame the odds such as two-term anti-incumbency and caste tensions to beat the Maha Vikas Aghadi in the Maharashtra assembly polls and was set to win 230 out of 288 seats. The BJP and its allies hadn’t done well in Maharashtra and Haryana in the April-June general elections but have now won subsequent state elections in both, setting it up well for upcoming polls in Delhi and Bihar.
In Jharkhand, the JMM coalition returned to power with a bigger margin than in 2019 under Hemant Soren, who became the first chief minister of the state to achieve that feat. The alliance was set to win 56 out of 81 seats with a 44% vote share.
In Maharashtra, the BJP on its own has won or was leading in 132 seats, higher than the 105 it won in the 2019 poll, giving party leader and deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis a strong hand.
