The Vijay Sethupathy-Katrina Kaif’s film has had a slow start at the box-office so far.
As per a report by the Indian box-office tracking portalSacnilk.com, the Sriram Raghavan film earned just over Rs 2.5 crore on opening day. The mystery drama is expected to earn Rs 0.41 crore on day two.
However, the performances of the cast have been more or less unanimously praised. The plot and the cinematography — an unconditional love letter penned by Raghavan to the ‘80s decade have also been appreciated so far.
Helmed by Raghavan (of ‘Johnny Gadar’, ‘Andhadhun’ and ‘Ek Hasina Thi’ fame), ‘Merry Christmas’ is a neo-noir romance. It revolves around two strangers — Albert and Mary who chance upon each other on a Christmas evening. However, their budding romance is interrupted rudely by a gruesome murder.
The plot of the film is loosely based on the mystery novel ‘Bird In A Cage’ by French author Frederic Dard.
Prashanth Varma’s mythological superhero film has had a phenomenal start in its box-office journey. As per a Sacnilk.com report, the Teja Sajja-starrer earned Rs 11.91 crore on the day of release.
Sajja essays the role of a village buffoon who gains superpowers after discovering a precious stone.
Tamil action-drama ‘Captain Miller’ is also enjoying a solid start to its box-office journey. The Dhanush-starrer collected Rs 8.65 crore on the day of release as per a Sacnilk.com report.
