GST demand notices issued to casino operator Delta Corp without prior permission from the court, the company said in a stock exchange filing on Tuesday.
Delta Corp and its two subsidiaries High Street Cruises and Entertainment Pvt Ltd & Delta Pleasure Cruise Company Pvt Ltd have been informed of an alleged tax shortfall of Rs 16,195 crore by the Directorate General of GST Intelligence, Hyderabad.
The Goa bench of the Bombay HC on Monday considered the writ petition filed by the company and its subsidiaries.
«Basis a statement made on behalf of the concerned tax authorities, the Hon’ble High Court has directed such authorities not to pass any final orders on the captioned show cause notices without the prior permission of the Hon’ble High Court. Dates have been fixed for completion of pleadings, and the hearing and final disposal of such writ petitions,» the company said in a release.
In the previous week, the Sikkim High Court granted a stay on around Rs 628 crore GST demand order against Delta Corp. The DG GST Hyderabad in September 2023 issued three demand notices against the company including a demand of over Rs 628 crore for the shortfall of tax paid by Delta Corp Limited in relation to Casino Deltin Denzong based out of Sikkim.
So far, the government has raised a total GST demand of around Rs 23,000 crore from Delta Corp group, including the recovery of the shortfall of taxes for casino and online gaming businesses.
