Helsinki returned a book after more than 84 years. He borrowed the book in the year 1939 from one of the public libraries. This was the year the Second World War broke out in Europe before it spread to the rest of the world.

The staff working in the public library in Helsinki were rather surprised when they found that someone had come to return a book after more than 84 years on Monday.

The returned book contained a library card which had listed the details of the borrower. The library believes that this may have been borrowed by a businessman based out of Pursimiehenkatu area of Helsinki.
The librarian mentioned that neither the individual who returned the book offered any reason for the delay nor the library authorities sought any explanation. He explained that it is normal for libraries to get back books, once in a while, after a long period, sometimes even after 10 years. He added that sometimes relatives or friends of the deceased individuals while going through their belongings do come across items that were borrowed but haven’t been returned. They return these books after that.
