BRICS Summit will take place in Kazan, Russia on 22nd-24th October, 2024. The Theme of the Meeting is «Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security”. The main objectives of the 2024 BRICS Summit are to promote cooperation and partnership in politics and security, economy and finance, and cultural and humanitarian ties.
More than 250 BRICS meetings/events have been organized by Russia during its Chairship. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the Summit on 22nd-23rd October, 2024.
The BRICS mechanism aims to promote peace, security, development, and cooperation. The BRICS countries have declared their support for an alternative global financial system, a multipolar world, and revamping the global trading system.
In addition to dealing with issues like promoting multilateralism, dealing with climate change, fighting terrorism and confronting other global challenges, the BRICS leaders are expected to deliberate at the forthcoming Summit on inducting new ‘’partner countries’’ in the grouping, ‘’de-dollarization’’ of the global economy, and the Gaza situation.
Evolution of the BRICS
The BRICS comprising of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa witnessed an expansion increasing its strength from five to eleven at the Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa in August, 2023. UAE, Egypt, Ethiopia and Iran joined the grouping on 1st January, 2024. Argentina declined to join after a change in government in November, 2023.
