British comedian Eddie Izzard to contest general election 2024 from Brighton

Eddie Izzard has announced her intention to contest the next general election from one of Brighton’s seats. Announcing her decision to fight polls, she said that she would contest on behalf of the Labour Party.

Explaining her decision to contest the poll, the comedian said that she would contest from Brighton to support the city and its vibrant and diverse society. But the Labour Party has said that it won’t comment on Izzard’s announcement. She could not secure the candidacy of the Labour Party from the Sheffield Central seat in 2022.

Green Party defeated Labour Party from Brighton Pavilion in the 2019 general election with a margin of 2,000 votes and the Conservatives came third. Caroline Lucas currently holds this seat. The Green Party has elected London Assembly member Sian Berry to replace Lucas. On the other hand, Liberal Democrats said that they would select a candidate soon.
