Rahul Gandhi over his silence over some controversial statements made by leaders of INDIA bloc parties. Referring to Rahul Gandhi as «Election Gandhi,» she urged him to clarify his stance on the 'Sanatana Dharma' statement made by DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin and other remarks made by other DMK leaders.
«We are witnessing unfortunate statements today from many political leaders in this country.
This process to gain votes from a few sections of people. They are making statement that will ultimately divide the country in ways we cannot imagine. For example, when some parties talk about 'Sanatana Dharma', when parties call some Hindi-speaking states as gaumutra states or insulting labourers who work of clean toilets...these statements should not be taken lightly,» she said.
She called on Rahul Gandhi to address these issues seriously, asserting that his timely intervention could have prevented subsequent inflammatory statements.
«If Rahul Gandhi, who talks about 'Bharat Jodo'… if he took these seriously from the beginning, when 'Sanatana Dharma' was insulted and crores across India were hurt, then maybe the other statements would not have been made,» he said.
«I call him 'Election Gandhi' because he never works except during elections. So I request him now… because Lok Sabha election is coming.
Tell the people you are not disrespectful of labourers and that people can't stand up in Parliament and insult a bunch of states with derogaatory remarks. You should stand up, and not only do 'PR' with 'Bharat Jodo Yatra', but say this is wrong,» she said.
Before this year's Telangana polls, BRS leader K Kavitha had called Congress leader Rahul «Election Gandhi», alleging that «he visits the state only during elections».
