
Cain Velasquez opens up about shooting ahead of sentencing, says 'cannot put the law in our hands'
UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will be sentenced on Monday, March 24 on attempted murder, assault, and gun charges. His sentencing is set to go down in a San Jose courtroom.

In a recent podcast with past teammate Kyle Kingsbry, Velasquez discussed the situation he and his family has been in. He spoke in-depth about the situation publicly for the first time throughout the process.
“From what I can say as far as myself, the way that I handled things, that was not the way to do it,” Velasquez said on The Kyle Kingsbury Podcast. “We cannot put the law in our own hands."
Velasquez acknowledged that he had already pleaded no-contest and was awaiting sentencing. He recognized the dangerous impact of his actions, not only on those directly involved but also on innocent people, and expressed understanding of the gravity of what he did.
He added that he would accept whatever the court deems necessary for his actions, facing it with accountability and remaining true to himself without placing blame on others.

Velasquez now said that he has forgiven Goularte despite the trauma he and his family continue to go through. He hopes Goularte and his family also recover.
