Pankaj Chaudhary, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, said in response to a Rajya Sabha question that no proposal for the establishment of the 8th Central Pay Commission is presently being considered. Legislators Javed Ali Khan and Ramji Lal Suman asked whether the Centre was thinking of making an announcement about the new pay commission in the Union Budget 2025–26, which is likely to be presented on February 1, 2025.

8th Pay Commission update: When is 8th Pay Commission due?
Central Pay Commissions are normally formed every 10 years to assess and suggest changes to central government employees' pay, allowances, and perks. These guidelines take inflation and other external factors into account. On February 28, 2014, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh constituted the Seventh Pay Commission. It delivered its findings on November 19, 2015, and the 7th Central Pay Commission's recommendations came into effect on January 1, 2016.
Going by this, the next pay commission — the 8th Central Pay Commission — would typically be implemented from January 1, 2026 onwards.
