Telangana, a recent debate on live TV turned violent when Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) MLA KP Vivekananda had a war of words and then went on to physically assault BJP candidate Kuna Srisailam Goud. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation from other political leaders.
The confrontation began when BJP candidate Goud labeled BRS MLA Vivekananda a «land grabber», to which he then retaliated by rushing towards Goud and grabbing him by the throat and pushing him. The fight had to be broken by the show's host and police officials who were at the scene.
The incident also went on to triggered chaos among their respective supporters, who then proceeded to break the barricades and hurl chairs in the middle of the debate. Police authorities struggled to control the situation as members of both groups attempted to attack each other.
A Telugu television channel had organised the debate among key contestants in the constituency.
The incident which was captured on video has been widely shared on social media.
«KCR's Party MLA assaults BJP Leader On Live TV debate In Telangana. Vivekananda attacking Goud by holding the latter's throat is an act of timidity,» Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy said in a statement.
Expressing their strong disapproval, the BJP condemned the attack on the BRS MLA and seized the opportunity to highlight their political narrative.
Union Minister and state BJP President G. Kishan Reddy alleged that BRS MLAs were involved in significant land grabs in and around Hyderabad, likening their behavior to that of «street rowdies.» Kishan Reddy argued that the physical assault by the BRS MLA was a sign of frustration and an inability to answer Goud's questions.
