The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revealed that over 6,447 people of Chhattisgarh have opted for the ‘Vote-from-Home’ option for voting in the incoming assembly elections in Chhattisgarh. The option has recently started in India that is open for limited citizens.
As per the schedule announced by ECI, Chhattisgarh will be conducting assembly elections in two phases, November 7 and 17, 2023. According to a statement released by the poll authority, out of 2,03,93,160 voters, the number of men voters is 1,01,35,561, while 1,02,56,846 are women, and 753 transgender people that will be able to exercise their right to vote.
The ‘Vote-from-Home’ facility has been proved quite efficient ac per ECI. The facility is available for people with 40% of disability and are above 80 years of age. Also, if the voter is affected by covid can register themselves for ‘Vote-from-Home’. According to the data, Chhattisgarh has 1.6 lakhs people from the disability category and over 1.86 lakhs people are above the age of 80.
The official notice says, “The Election Commission has introduced the facility of voting through postal ballot at home to voters above 80 years of age or with more than 40 per cent disability. A total of 6,447 such voters have decided to avail this facility.”
Application for Home Voting
The citizens of India can apply for a home voting facility by registering themselves with the returning officer of the concerned constituency through Form 12-D. Then, two election officials will visit the registered address on the day of voting to get the vote on the postal ballot. The casted vote will be later counted with the other votes with equal value.
