Citibank India has introduced a new work-from-home (WFH) policy allowing female employees to work remotely for up to 12 months following their 26-week maternity leave. Additionally, expectant mothers can request three months of WFH during their final trimester, subject to review and approval.
Citibank India has taken a significant step to support its female employees by extending the option of working from home (WFH) after maternity leave.
The new policy, in alignment with a government advisory from 2021, grants female employees the opportunity to continue working remotely for up to 12 months after their 26-week maternity leave, TOI reported.
Furthermore, Citibank is offering expectant mothers the chance to request three months of WFH during their final trimester, with the condition that such requests will be reviewed and approved accordingly.
This initiative seeks to address the challenges that many working mothers face in balancing their family and career responsibilities. Research indicates that women often take extended breaks during this crucial phase in their lives, which can have a lasting impact on their careers and representation in senior roles within organizations.
Aditya Mittal, the Chief Human Resources Officer for Citi India & South Asia, emphasized the importance of this move, stating, «Citi's support during this crucial time in my life is invaluable.
It allowed me to fully embrace the joys and challenges of motherhood without worrying about my career. The peace of mind knowing that I could continue contributing to my job working from home made my transition into motherhood so much smoother.»
With a workforce in India comprising 38% women, Citibank aims to ensure career continuity for its female employees
