The City's regulators defended their independence from the government as lawmakers begin debating a landmark overhaul to post-Brexit rule-making.
"Operational independence is vital to maintaining the effectiveness of UK financial regulation," Prudential Regulation Authority chief and deputy governor Sam Woods said. "Regulators should not come under undue pressure to weaken regulatory standards or accept changes that could impede our ability to achieve our primary objectives."
