As reported by the Times of India, the man had been ordered by the court to pay Rs 2 lakh as interim maintenance to his wife, who filed for divorce last year.
The resident of Vadavalli, who requested anonymity, owns a taxi. Reportedly, he arrived at the court premises on Wednesday with his car loaded with 20 bundles of coins.
He carried the bundles into the additional family court and presented them as payment. However, the judge instructed him to pay in currency notes instead. A video of the man leaving the court with the bundles of coins quickly went viral on social media.
On Thursday, the man returned to court and handed over the Rs 80,000 in notes. The court then directed him to pay the remaining Rs 1.2 lakh at the earliest.
