The American crypto exchange giant Coinbase is on the hunt for a crypto-loving all-action hero – and has posted a surreal job posting for an “Executive Protection Senior.”
Those used to reading Coinbase job ads for “backend engineers,” “account managers,” and “senior business systems analysts” with experience in Python, Java, and blockchain protocols will have been surprised to see a vacancy for an individual with “counter-surveillance” experience, plus “tactical driving skills, applied with a chauffeur’s approach.”
The recruitment manager who crafted the post – on the jobs platform LinkedIn – wrote:
“You will create contingency plans, conduct travel risk assessments and liaise with key stakeholders at a variety of venues. You will be a master of resourcefulness, with expertise in seamless execution with a knack for making things happen on the fly.”
Although the posting appears to show that the crypto exchange is on the hunt for a bodyguard of sorts for its senior executives – it would prefer that the new hire also has deep knowledge (or a thirst to learn) about advanced crypto-related matters: Coinbase is seeking someone who “wants to be a pro in bleeding-edge tech like DeFi, NFTs, DAOs, and Web 3.0.”
As well as “remote wilderness first aid” skills, the candidate will need “medical training beyond First Aid and CPR, or willingness to obtain” this – as well as “strong administrative skills” and familiarity with more mundane business tools like Slack and Meet.
And if it’s James Bond the exchange is looking for, it appears the new hire will have an M to answer to: the candidate will have to answer to the “Coinbase Protective Intelligence Manager.”
