Coldplay returning to India after a gap of nine years has taken the fandom by storm. While diehard fans of the rock icons are scrambling to lay their hands on the exorbitantly priced tickets, the Coldplay fandom was left devastated when several tickets resurfaced on reselling websites. Earlier, millions of fans had visited the BookMyShow website and app for three shows at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai for a chance at one of the 1.5 lakh seats.
However, reseller websites prospered as tickets became scarce and grievances flooded social media.
Since then, ticket prices have increased by 10 to 20 times on platforms like Viagogo, and many others have taken to social media to sell «extra» tickets they had already bought. This happened when millions of people were presumably waiting in line for Coldplay's announcement of a third gig in response to the ‘phenomenal’ demand.
“We implemented a queueing system to manage the overwhelming demand and addressed issues caused by suspicious and malicious traffic within minutes, causing a brief delay, but ensuring minimal disruption for genuine fans. Due to the unprecedented demand, a third Mumbai show was added shortly thereafter, which also received a fantastic response,” a BookMyShow representative told Mint.
