Comet C/2024 G3 ATLAS is a «sungrazer» comet, meaning it passes very close to the Sun. Calculations suggest it will come within 8.3 million miles of the Sun. Despite the intense heat, the comet has survived its solar encounter, maintaining its integrity and brightness. This resilience is particularly noteworthy, as many comets disintegrate during such close passes.
