Madhya Pradesh's former chief minister Digvijaya Singh has been given charge of the 66 assembly seats considered safe bets for the BJP, sources said, as the Congress bets on its senior-most leader in the state to breach the ruling party's bastions in upcoming elections. Singh will be responsible for forming the party's strategy to win these seats which include the constituencies of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and several ministers.
He has visited all these constituencies and held freewheeling conversations with the local party workers, listening to their apprehensions and grievances, sources said, adding that he plans to visit these assembly segments again. Singh's strategy involves increasing public outreach, engaging in dialogue with all sections of society, ensuring better coordination among party workers, making necessary adjustments as per local requirement and, above all, staying positive to put up a spirited fight, party leaders said.
Among these 66 segments are those currently held by ministers like Yashodhara Raje Scindia, who has Shivpuri, Gopal Bhargava (Rehti seat), Bhupendra Singh (Khuri) and Rajvardhan Singh Dattigaon (Badnawar). The list also includes Mungaoli, Shivpuri, Guna, Ujjain north, Ujjain south, Ashoknagar, Sagar, Jabalpur Cantt, Khandwa, Sanchi and others.
