Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party, the Congress on Saturday announced its decision to oppose in Parliament the contentious Delhi services ordinance.All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesman Jairam Ramesh listed about 10 issues as the party's top priorities to be raised with demand for debates during the budget session of Parliament, after a meeting of the party's parliamentary strategy committee meeting. Significantly, the issue of Rahul Gandhi's disqualification from the Lok Sabha did not figure in the list.
In response to questions on the Congress stand in Parliament on the Delhi ordinance, Ramesh said, «The Congress party has always fought against the Modi government's assault on constitutional rights and responsibilities of the democratically elected state governments and local governments. ...There is no question of not opposing it.» The issues listed by Ramesh at a briefing after the meeting included the Manipur unrest, rail safety, attack on federalism, role of governors, bringing goods and services tax under Prevention of Money Laundering Act, inflation, demand for joint parliamentary committee probe into the Adani issue, attack on constitutional bodies, protests by women wrestlers.
