Covid XEC has been detected in Germany. It is spreading across Europe at the speed of light. This is a hybrid of Omicron subvariants KS.1.1 and KP.3.3. This may become a dominant strain by winter because of its unique mutations. Experts are advising to take vaccines and booster shots as a protective shield against severe illness.
Eric Topol, director of the Scipps Research Translational institute in La Jolla posted on X that the variants of XEC is approaching to be successful and it has high potential to exist. According to the predictions of experts of last month, within a few weeks or months, the variant will become dominant and will spread at a gallop. KS 1.1 is a part of the FliRt variant, which has mutations in the building block molecules, including phenylalanine(F) is being replaced with Leucine(L) whereas arginine® has altered with threonine(T). The virus has changes on its spike protein, which it uses to attach to cells of human. KP 3.3 is part of FLuQE variant. The amino acid glutamine(Q) is muted to glutamic acid (E). This helps the virus to bind with human cells, as specified by the lifestyle desk of TOI.
