The suggestions came in response to a proposal from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) regarding setting up telecom manufacturing zones in the country.
«The sheds should be constructed keeping in mind the requirements of manufacturers, so that they can just bring their machinery and start manufacturing,» said an industry executive, who did not wish to be identified.
DoT secretary Neeraj Mittal on Tuesday met executives of telcos and gear manufacturers to seek their inputs regarding setting up telecom zones. The DoT wants to ascertain whether the existing industrial clusters should be utilised for creating telecom specific zones or new areas need to be explored.
The meeting was attended by executives from Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea as well as manufacturers such as Nokia, Ericsson, Tejas Networks, Jabil and Dixon Technologies.
