Carlton captain Patrick Cripps or High Court Chief Justice Susan Kiefel?
Both made an appearance at a lunch in Melbourne on Tuesday that doubled as the launch of a scholarship in honour of former Federal Court judge and Crown royal commissioner Ray Finkelstein.
Hearsay will take it that The Fink was more touched by the presence of his old friend Kiefel – they served together on the Federal Court – but can we be sure?

Especially after Cripps lauded the staunch Blues supporter as an “icon at the bar, on the bench and in the stands”.
Apparently, he was also an umpire who didn’t care much for being overruled by others on appeal. Not bad, but we reckon Cripps would like this line from a profile of The Fink by our colleague Patrick Durkin.

“You will never die wondering what Fink thinks, he can kill you with a smile on his face.”
The Leonie Thompson, Ray Finkelstein and Arnold Bloch Leibler Law Scholarship – the law firm put on the lunch – is worth up to $44,000 and will support students from disadvantaged backgrounds to attend the Fink’s alma mater, Monash University. Bravo.
