Dollars worth Rs 1.39 crore ($166,900) was seized by the BSF at the International Border in West Bengal.
BSF reported that its Intelligence Branch alerted on-duty personnel about the attempted smuggling of foreign currency in the Nadia Border Outpost (Betai area).
After the information was received, an ambush was made at the said location. Upon sighting suspicious activities, the jawans surrounded the smugglers, who, taking advantage of darkness and dense fog, retreated towards India.
Following a thorough search, four bundles of US dollar were found.
The confiscated currency was handed over to the Chapra Customs Office for legal proceedings.
BSF South Bengal Frontier's Public Relations Officer, AK Arya, said that the successful operation highlights BSF's alertness. He urged people to stay away from smuggling activities and warned that decisive action would be taken whenever such cases happen.
