cyclone Michaung wrecked havoc in the city through Monday.
The US Consulate issued an advisory that all scheduled consular appointments, including dropbox and biometrics have been cancelled until Tuesday, December 5, and will be rescheduled.
Information pertaining to rescheduling will be communicated to the applicants, the consulate said.
The consulate remained shut on Monday as well and all visa appointments scheduled were canceled. The consulate, along with the American Center and EducationUSA office, will remain closed to the public.
The decision came as Cyclone Michaung brought heavy rainfall and strong winds to the northern coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, since Sunday afternoon, December 3, through December 4.
VFS Global, a visa consultant firm, echoed the precautionary measures, announcing the closure of its Visa Application Centres in Chennai on December 4 and December 5 due to the local weather advisory related to Cyclone Michaung.
Applicants with confirmed oppointments for 4 and 5 December will be contacted by our staff through email or call for rescheduling their appointments between 6 and 8 December, VFS said.
«Kindly ensure that you carry printouts of the appointment letter of 4 and 5 December along with your documents as per the checklist while visiting our centres on the rescheduled date,» it added in its post on social media platform X.
Meanwhile, Cyclone Michaung has already disrupted normal life in Tamil Nadu, particularly impacting Chennai.
The state capital witnessed heavy rainfall, resulting in waterlogging of subways and arterial roads. Operations at Chennai airport were temporarily suspended, with 70 flights canceled due to continuous rains.
