Daniel Khalife came to an end on Saturday morning after the London Metropolitan Police arrested him with the help of the Territorial Support Group. The undercover cops swooped on the fugitive when he was near a canal bridge in Chiswick. The sleuths of the law-enforcing agencies were on tenterhooks since Wednesday morning when the former soldier escaped HMP Wandsworth after hiding under a food delivery van.
In the photographs taken from the scene of the arrest, Khalife is seen being held by cops near a bike and a sleeping bag. He is also seen with a cool bag of groceries.
In a statement issued on social media site X, the London Metropolitan Police said, “Metropolitan Police officers have arrested Daniel Khalife who escaped from HMP Wandsworth on 6 Sep Officers apprehended him just before 11 am today in the #Chiswick area, and he is currently in police custody We thank the public and media for their support with info and appeals.”
Reacting to the arrest of the fugitive, UK Prime Miniter Rishi Sunak told journalists in the Indian capital of New Delhi, “I’m very pleased with the news and my thanks to the police officers for their fantastic work over the past couple of days, but also to the public who came forward with an enormous number of leads to help the police in their inquiries.”
Home Minister Chris Philp congratulated the Metropolitan Police for their “rapid and effective” work.
Earlier, the London Police announced a reward of GBP 20,000 for information leading to the arrest of Daniel Khalife.
