Dead Boy Detectives heading to Netflix. Initially slated for HBO Max, Warner Bros. decided to transfer the show to Netflix.
Berlanti Productions is behind the series, developed by Steve Yockey, who co-showruns with Beth Schwartz. While the release date remains unknown, a teaser suggests it will debut in 2024.
Variety confirmed in April 2022 that the first season will comprise eight episodes. Whether Netflix plans further seasons or opts for a limited series remains unclear.
Adapted from Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner's DC comic, the series follows ghostly teens, Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, unraveling supernatural mysteries in the afterlife. The logline reads:
«Dead Boy Detectives is a fresh take on a ghost story exploring loss, grief, and death through the lens of Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland…and their very alive friend, Crystal Palace. It’s a lot like a vintage detective series — only darker and on acid.»
Steve Yockey, creator of The Flight Attendant, adapts the series for TV, directed by Lee Toland Krieger. Yockey promises a «dark fun» adventure with unpredictable twists. Beth Schwartz, a writer/producer for Arrow, collaborates on the project.
Produced by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, the series was initially intended for HBO Max.
The cast is set, featuring George Rexstrew as Edwin Paine, Jayden Revri as Charles Rowland, and Kassius Nelson as Crystal Palace. Additional talents include Michael Beach, Joshua Colley, Lindsey Gort, David Iacono, Briana Cuoco, Lukas Gage, Yuyu Kitamura, Jenn Lyon, and Ruth Connell.
