Delhi-Mumbai expressway is anticipated to be ready for travel in the next few months, a TOI report stated. The completion of this section will enable commuters to enjoy a seamless ride from the national capital to Surat.
Jain further stated that the Delhi-Mumbai expressway project as a whole is expected to be completed by December 2024.
Although a minor section in Rajasthan, which includes an 8-kilometer tunnel, may cause a temporary disruption, Jain assured that commuters can use an alternate road during this period to ensure uninterrupted connectivity between Delhi and Surat.
Spanning a distance of 1,386 km, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will become India's longest expressway once completed. It aims to reduce the distance between Delhi and Mumbai by 12%, condensing it from 1,424 km to 1,242 km.
Additionally, it will substantially reduce travel time from a full day to just 12 hours.
The expressway will traverse six states — Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra — connecting important urban centers such as Kota, Indore, Jaipur, Bhopal, Vadodara, and Surat.
Apart from improving travel convenience, the Delhi-Mumbai expressway will also benefit 93 PM Gati Shakti economic nodes, 13 ports, 8 major airports, and 8 multi-modal logistics parks. It will also provide easy access to upcoming greenfield airports like Jewar Airport, Navi Mumbai Airport, and JNPT port.
In addition to the Delhi-Mumbai expressway, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has plans to construct 50,000 km of high-speed, access-controlled corridors by 2047.
