ONDC) announced its beta launch in five cities including in Delhi, Delhi surpassed Bengaluru in terms of retail orders on July 9 with 8,304 orders over Bengaluru's 7,048 orders, and the network cumulatively got more than 35,000 retail orders in a day. Sources said this was the scenario despite the rains in the capital because of the weekend push by buyer applications like Magicpin and Paytm with themes like Super Sundays. ONDC had gone beta live on July 5 in Mumbai, Delhi NCR (including Noida, Gurgaon and Faridabad), Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata post scaling seller density in these cities.
Along with Bengaluru and Meerut, which went Beta live in September 2022 and December 2022, respectively, the network is now accessible to buyers (consumers) and sellers in these additional five cities. Consumers will be able to purchase from the sellers on the ONDC network through four active buyer applications — Paytm, Mystore, Spice Money, and Magicpin. Currently, the network has more than 40,000 sellers live in more than 200 cities, out of which more than 18,000 sellers operate from these five cities.
A source told ET, «On Sunday, Magicpin and Paytm promoted to their customers in the form of reminders etc. Even though the beta launch announcement was only on July 5, there were already enough sellers and buying applications. ONDC did not offer any new discounts too.» «These two buyer applications did active campaigns for their existing client base.
PhonePe's Pincode which is also on ONDC recently announced its visibility in ten cities. This also helped. Despite the unavailability of delivery personnel due to the rains, there was a consolidated weekend push,» the source said.
