Nipen Das, superintendent of Dibrugarh Central Jail, in connection with objectionable material found in the cell of Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh and his nine associates, who are lodged in the Jail. It was observed that there were lapses in security inside the jail where the NSA detainees are lodged.
Dibrugarh additional superintendent of police (crime) Sizal Agarwal said Das was arrested under Section 13(1)B of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Section 75 of Assam Prisons Act.
Objectionable material, including mobiles and spy cameras, were recovered from the jail. Das was arrested on the basis of a case registered in connection with the incident.
The other associates of Singh who were booked under NSA are Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Papalpreet Singh, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Varinder Singh Johal, Gurmeet Singh, Bukkanwala, Harjit Singh, Bhagwant Singh, Basant Singh and Gurinderpal Singh Aujla.
Assam Director General of Police GP Singh had said on February 21 that Punjab Police and Punjab government were informed about the unauthorised activities inside the NSA cell at Dibrugarh Jail.
A search operation led to the recovery of numerous unauthorised items, and the source of these items is currently under investigation. Upon receiving information on these activities, additional CCTV cameras were installed in the public area of the NSA Block.
