Catherine Hardwicke, the director behind the first installment of the saga, recently weighed in on the hypothetical casting choices for the beloved characters of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan if the series were to be revisited today.
Hardwicke, speaking on the «Watchalong» podcast, expressed her thoughts on who could step into the shoes of the star-crossed lovers. With confidence, she nominated Jacob Elordi and Jenna Ortega as ideal candidates for these pivotal roles.

Regarding the role of Bella Swan, Hardwicke vouched for Jenna Ortega, citing her standout performances in projects like Netflix's “Wednesday” and her reputation as a “Scream” queen.
However, she acknowledged that Ortega's involvement in “Scream 7” might be hindered by scheduling conflicts.
“I do think there’s a lot of really cool young actors,” Hardwicke acknowledged, emphasizing Ortega's talent.
Reflecting on the original casting process, Hardwicke reminisced about the initial doubts surrounding Robert Pattinson's suitability to portray the brooding vampire, Edward Cullen. Recalling Pattinson's audition, she mentioned the studio's reservations about his appearance, questioning if he possessed the necessary allure for the character.
