Diwali Muhurat trading day, Sensex and Nifty have given positive returns in the one-hour special session 80% of the time in last 10 years.
The best Muhurat performance was in 2008, during the global financial crisis, when indices jumped nearly 6%. Last year's Muhurat on October 24 saw indices rise around 0.88%.
«Those participating in the session on an auspicious note do not look at intraday or overnight gains. Also, this being a stock-specific exercise, Nifty’s trend takes less of a predominance as it does on regular days,» said Anand James, Chief Market Strategist at Geojit Financial Services.
A screener ran by ETMarkets shows that there are at 457 stocks with a market capitalisation of more than Rs 1,000 crore that have given positive returns in all the last 5 Muhurat days. Out of them, there are at least 19 stocks that gave a return of at least 5% in the last Muhurat session.
Top gainers include D-Link, Saksen Technologies, Tata Motors — DVR, Finolex Cables, PTC Industries and Wonderla Holidays.
