Mumbai gears up for the much-awaited Ganeshotsav festivities next month, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a timely caution to devotees concerning the usage of aging and risky road over bridges (ROBs), particularly those currently undergoing repairs.
As per a TOI report, in a bid to ensure safety, weight restrictions have been placed on certain bridges, including the Curry Road Station ROB and the Chinchpokli Railway Station Bridge on Sane Guruji Marg. Organizers have been instructed not to exceed a load of 16 tonnes at any given time.
Additionally, the BMC has urged devotees to avoid dancing on these bridges and to refrain from using loudspeakers. The aim is to maintain a smooth and uninterrupted procession during the festivities.
A BMC official emphasized, «Devotees should cross the bridge promptly without lingering, adhering to police and BMC guidance.»
The BMC has also identified nine bridges that span the Central Railway Line and another nine that traverse the Western Railway Line. Noteworthy mentions include the Tilak Bridge in Dadar, the Bellasis Bridge at Mumbai Central Station, the Marine Lines Railway Over Bridge, and the Kennedy Railway Over Bridge between Grant Road and Charni Road.
In a recent directive, BMC's Chief, IS Chahal, has instructed ward level officers to swiftly address the issue of potholes along routes used for the arrival and immersion of Ganesha idols.
Officers have been entrusted with the task of conducting regular inspections to promptly respond to any complaints related to potholes.
