Donald Trump has finally returned to social networking website X (formerly Twitter), more than two years after he was banned in January 2021.
Trump posted his first tweet on X with his mugshot late on Thursday, saying, «Election interference, never surrender».
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and the owner of X, reacted to Trump with a quote post saying, «Next-level».
Numerous followers of Trump also warmly welcomed him back to X.
After his suspension from platforms like Twitter and Facebook, Trump launched his own social media platform, Truth Social.
On November 18, 2022, Musk conducted a Twitter poll asking users whether he should reinstate Trump. With approximately 15 million responses, 51.8 percent voted in favour of reinstatement, while 48.2 percent opposed the idea.
In response to the question of his return, Trump indicated that he had reservations due to the existing «problems on Twitter.»
Twitter permanently banned President Trump on January 8, 2021, in the wake of a pro-Trump mob storming the US Capitol, which resulted in five deaths.
The platform stated, «After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.»
Meanwhile, in relation to the Georgia election subversion case, Trump surrendered to the Fulton County jail in Atlanta and was subsequently released on bond. Jail records indicated that he was arrested and booked for a short duration.
