The current CR, passed in December, expires early Friday. Trump has urged Republican lawmakers to back the bill, framing it as critical to stabilizing the country’s finances and countering Democratic opposition.
However, the narrow Republican majority in the House, which is 218 to 214, leaves little room for error. Speaker Johnson can only afford to lose two votes, but several Republicans, including Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, have already vowed to reject the bill.
