Government shutdown remedies in the works
According to a Daily Mail UK report, former President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson have been working to rally support for a temporary funding extension, known as a continuing resolution (CR), to keep the government running until September 30. The current CR, passed in December, expires early Friday. Trump has urged Republican lawmakers to back the bill, framing it as critical to stabilizing the country’s finances and countering Democratic opposition.
However, the narrow Republican majority in the House, which is 218 to 214, leaves little room for error. Speaker Johnson can only afford to lose two votes, but several Republicans, including Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, have already vowed to reject the bill.
Trump expressed cautious optimism about avoiding a shutdown, suggesting Democrats would benefit from the chaos. He emphasized the need for Republican unity, calling the proposed CR a “very good funding bill” and urging lawmakers to pass it to buy time for broader budget reforms.
Meanwhile, Democratic leaders strongly oppose the bill, arguing it unfairly cuts essential programs like healthcare, nutrition aid, and veterans’ benefits while failing to protect

We’ve already started this transition, and we plan to do more of it this fiscal.”Beyond mobile phones and laptops, EMS firms are expanding into smart metres for electricity boards, aerospace and defence subsystems, railway safety instrumentation, printed circuit boards and display assemblies, and medical devices deployed in hospitals.India’s annual mobile phone shipments have remained subdued since the covid-19 pandemic, with industry estimates pointing to a single-digit decline this calendar year from 152 million smartphones shipped last year.The margin pressure driving this shift is increasingly visible.In FY26, Syrma SGS reported an operating margin of 7.1%, up 2.3 percentage points.
