earthquake of magnitude 5.3 shook Chamba in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday, informed National Center for Seismology.
The agency which monitors earthquakes in the country said the quake in Himachal Pradesh had a depth of 10 km. NCS added that the timing of the quake was 9:34 pm.
The earthquake in Himachal Pradesh led to mild tremors in neighbouring areas including Chandigarh and parts of Punjab and Haryana. However, there is no loss so far as the tremors were felt in non-populated areas.
Despite the magnitude, the quake lasted for a few seconds. «I felt a strong jolt lasting a couple of seconds. Just when I was thinking of rushing downstairs, the tremors stopped,» reported PTI quoting Sanjay Kumar, a Chandigarh resident.
Earlier, an earthquake of lesser magnitude was recorded in Himachal Pradesh's Chamoli and Lahaul and Spiti on April 1.
