Mahayuti alliance achieved a decisive victory in the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections, securing 231 of the 288 constituencies. The coalition, led by Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis (BJP) and Ajit Pawar (NCP), is set to retain control of the state government. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) managed to win or lead in only 50 seats, marking a significant setback for the alliance of the Congress, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena faction.
The Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde will hold its legislative party meeting on Sunday evening at the Taj Lands End Hotel in Mumbai. During this meeting, the party is expected to officially elect Shinde as its leader, solidifying his position as Chief Minister for the upcoming term.
Addressing a press conference alongside his deputy chief ministers, Shinde termed the victory «record-breaking» and expressed gratitude to the people of Maharashtra. “This is the record-breaking victory of Mahayuti. We are thankful to the whole of Maharashtra...We removed all the obstacles created by the MVA during their governance,” said Shinde.
Shinde also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support and redefined «CM» as «Common Man» to underline the government's alignment with the public's aspirations.
