Elon Musk, acting as a special adviser to the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has ordered all federal employees to justify their work or face dismissal. The directive was sent via email, instructing workers to submit a list of their accomplishments for the past week and copy their manager. The deadline was set for Monday at 11:59 p.m. in Washington.

Musk confirmed the order on X, stating, “All federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week. Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.”
The directive came shortly after former US President Donald Trump, who established DOGE to streamline government operations, encouraged Musk to take a tougher stance. “Elon is doing a great job, but I would like to see him get more aggressive,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Musk’s order quickly drew comparisons to his past interactions with Parag Agrawal, the former CEO of X (formerly Twitter), whom he fired in 2022. A post on X pointed out the parallels between Musk’s question to Agrawal—“What did you get done this week?”—and his current scrutiny of federal employees.
