According to early estimates from industry tracker Sacnilk, Emergency earned Rs 2.35 crore net in India on its first day. These figures stand roughly 36% higher than the Rs 1.50-Rs 2 crore earnings predicted by box office experts like Pinkvilla.
On the same day, Ajay Devgn’s Azaad also hit the theatres, earning Rs 1.50 crore, as per Sacnilk. The direct comparison between the two releases has further added to the discourse around Emergency’s performance.
The film, which stars Kangana Ranaut in the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, delves into the political turmoil during the 1975 Emergency period. While the promotional campaign for the movie remained relatively understated, much of its pull lies in Kangana’s star power and the political intrigue of the storyline.
The cast of Emergency boasts some heavyweights, including Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Mahima Chaudhary, Adhir Bhat as Feroze Gandhi,
