ET Q&A: All our products are legitimate, sold under valid prescriptions, says Aveo Pharmaceuticals MD
Aveo Pharmaceuticals said the company has been issued stop-production notice for non-compliance with manufacturing standards and not for export of opioid-based drugs to West African nations. Arvind Sharma, its managing director, also told ET's Teena Thacker and Vikas Dandekar that the company has valid product permissions from the state food and drug administrator for Tafradol, a combination of Tapentadol and Carisoprodol. Edited excerpts:
What is the status of allegations of exports of opioids to West African nations?
The allegations that our products are narcotics opioids are false. All our products are legitimate, licensed pharmaceuticals sold under valid prescriptions in numerous countries.
By when do you think your operations will resume? What actions have been taken by the agencies?
We have submitted all required documents to the state FDA and CDSCO -the central drug administration. I have full faith in the state FDA, CDSCO, and our judiciary. We are hopeful of getting justice and a quick resolution. Reopening our factory and resuming production is essential, as the livelihoods of many people depend on it. We feel a strong sense of responsibility and are doing everything possible to restore operations and ease their hardship.
Have the state and the central governments given you some notification/order?
