army has clarified that the family of an Agniveer, who died in the line of duty in Siachen, will get emoluments as per authorisation that are in excess of Rs 1.1 crore, reacting to «conflicting messages on social media regarding financial assistance».
The army said that the bereaved family will get all emoluments authorised to a deceased battle casualty that includes a non-contributory insurance sum of Rs 48 lakh, ex-gratia of Rs 44 lakh, full pay of balance tenure amounting to Rs 13 lakh and a contribution of Rs 8 lakh from the Armed Forces Battle Casualty Fund.
The army''s clarification came after opposition leader Rahul Gandhi posted on social media that the soldier did not get gratuity or other military facilities during service and his family will get no pension either, terming the Agniveer scheme as an «insult to the heroes of India».
BJP leader Amit Malviya described the Congress leader's post as «irresponsible» and said that the next of kin of the soldier will get all emoluments entitled as a battle casualty.
