The director recently claimed that he made “zero” money from his Oscar-nominated movie. Corbet made the comment on a podcast called WTF with Marc Maron. According to the auteur, he made money for the first time in years when he directed three advertisements in Portugal, The Hollywood Reporter stated.
The director said that he and his wife Mona Fastvold did not make any money on their last two projects. The couple had to live off paychecks from three years ago.

The Brutalist director claimed that the promotional tours and award campaigns for a film can take a toll on directors. Giving his own example, Corbet said that he had been promoting The Brutalist since September and this has not resulted in any income for him. The hectic pace of the promotional campaigns means that he cannot take any kind of job.
The director went on to describe the promotional campaigns as “a six-month interrogation,” claiming that he completed 90 interviews in the last week alone.
