The fire is believed to have originated in the reception area on the ground floor, with a short circuit suspected as the cause. The flames quickly spread throughout the building, engulfing multiple floors. Firefighters battled the blaze for over an hour, working tirelessly to bring it under control.
«Unfortunately, the victims succumbed to suffocation due to the thick smoke that filled the hospital,» said a spokesperson from the fire service. Rescue teams are still on the ground, continuing their search for patients who may be trapped inside the building.
As part of the emergency response, around 50 ambulances have been deployed to transport survivors to safer locations. At least 30 patients have already been transferred to the Dindigul Government Hospital for treatment.
Firefighters are still working to ensure no one is left behind in the hospital, and authorities have vowed to investigate the cause of the fire thoroughly.
