Firetrail’s Oscar Hutchinson will be striding around the investment manager’s Sydney offices with an extra spring in his step.

The equity analyst has been promoted to portfolio manager of the Firetrail S3 Global Opportunities Fund. His appointment rounds the fund’s PM team to four, joining ex-Macquarie stockpickers James Miller and Patrick Hodgens and risk specialist Justin Gray.
Hutchinson was an analyst on Firetrail’s global equities team, leading the firm’s analysis of several investments including trading platform Interactive Brokers, Canadian copper miner First Quantum, US travel giant Booking Holdings, equipment rental company United Rentals and Brazilian financial services firm ITAU Unibanco.
He was also across Firetrail’s investment in two Mexican airports, Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte and Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico.
Hutchinson joined from private equity investor Anacacia Capital in 2022. He began his career as an equity research analyst at Fidelity International, covering European and UK financials, property, healthcare, metals and mining, and Australian metals and mining.
Firetrail launched the global strategy in late 2021, which also trades as an actively managed exchange-traded fund. It targets around 30 names it thinks have the potential to re-rate or upgrade earnings.
The listed fund returned 24.2 per cent over the past year, outperforming the MSCI World Net Total Return Index by 1.9 per cent. Performance since inception (annualised) hit 4.1 per cent in August, underperforming the benchmark by 1.25 per cent.
