Flood-like situation in Noida and Ghaziabad: Hundreds of cars submerged as Hindon and Yamuna water levels rise

Hindon River, a tributary of the Yamuna, experienced a rise in water level, resulting in a flood-like situation in Noida's Ecotech 3 locality on Tuesday. Hundreds of cars were submerged as the water level increased, causing concern for residents in parts of Noida and Ghaziabad. The rising water level of the river has led to a challenging situation in the affected areas.

Earlier on Sunday, over 50 individuals were rescued from Karhera village in Ghaziabad, situated along the banks of the Hindon River, after it faced flooding due to a surge in water discharge. The rising water levels led to more than 8 feet of water accumulation in the village. To carry out the rescue operation, a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Sahibabad police utilised motorboats to safely evacuate the residents.

As per Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Sahibabad, Bhaskar Verma, some villagers had been shifted to safer places while others moved to their relatives’ houses. A relief camp has been set up in a school in the village. The Hindon River overflowed and broke through the embankment close to the Ghaziabad forest.

As a result, the forest and nearby neighbourhoods got flooded. The NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) came to the rescue and helped people in Ataur Nangla and Noor Nagar villages, which are under the Nandgram police station area, to be safely moved to safer places on Friday. On Sunday, the water level of the Yamuna River in Delhi surpassed the danger mark of 205.33 metres due to increased water discharge from the Hathnikund Barrage.
