pay by car' has emerged as the latest innovation. Amazon and Mastercard-backed ToneTag have launched a new service, integrating the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with your car's infotainment system, ushering in a new era of convenient and smartphone-free digital payments.
MG Hector, in partnership with Bharat Petroleum, recently showcased the tech that will let you make payments directly from your car, eliminating the need for a smartphone or other handheld devices.
Here's how 'pay by car' works: When you drive up to a fuel station, your car's infotainment system displays the fuel dispenser number.
Simultaneously, a soundbox within your car announces your arrival, alerting the attentive staff at the fuel station. You then proceed to enter the desired amount for your fuel purchase, which is conveniently announced through the same soundbox.
This straightforward process results in a secure and contactless transaction, enhancing both convenience and safety.
But the applications of this technology don't stop at fuel purchases. 'Pay by car' also offers the ability to recharge your car's Fastag, with the current balance displayed on the infotainment screen, providing a comprehensive solution for your vehicle-related payments.
ToneTag's journey towards this innovation traces back to its successful execution of developing an offline voice-based payment system for any phone within the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) sandbox.
