Simon Katich made a pointed remark about England's performance against India in the ongoing Test series, implying that India's current team could be considered a B-Team with key players not playing in the series. However, Katich praised England's captain, Ben Stokes, for his tactical acumen during the series, particularly in handling a relatively young spin attack in challenging subcontinental conditions.
Speaking on the show, Around The Wicket, Katich noted the absence of prominent Indian players like Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant, characterizing India's current squad as akin to a «B team.» He acknowledged India's deep talent pool, exemplified by emerging talents like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel.
Echoing Katich's sentiments, former Australian skipper Tim Paine concurred that England might be facing a weakened Indian side, drawing parallels with Australia's experience of being defeated by India's second-string team in the 2018-19 series at home. Despite enjoying England's dynamic style of play, Paine admitted to relishing their losses, albeit finding their approach to the game entertaining and exhilarating.
Speaking about England team's bazball style of play, Paine said: I thoroughly enjoy watching England play the game, I love the way they are going about it. I love watching them lose. Don't get me wrong but they are entertaining and exciting."
India has secured the five-Test series against England with an insurmountable 3-1 lead and is poised for a potential 4-1
